In celebration of Jonathan Larson’s Tony award-winning musical “Rent’s” 20th anniversary, original cast members from the show will be reuniting next month at BroadwayCon in New York City.
As announced by Playbill, the “Rent” reunion will include cast members Anthony Rapp (Mark Cohen), Adam Pascal (Roger Davis) and Daphne Rubin-Vega (Mimi Marquez) as well as choreographer Marlies Yearby, original conductor Tim Weil and original casting director Bernard Telsey, who will all participate in a BroadwayCon 2016 panel on Jan. 22, the 20th anniversary of the musical’s off-Broadway debut. During the “Rent” panel, which is titled “10, 514, 880 Minutes: Measuring 20 Years of Rent, ” cast members will discuss memories from the monumental show’s opening week and how their lives have changed in the two decades since it premiered.
Rapp confirmed the news in a tweet this week.
“Rent” premiered at New York Theatre Workshop on Jan. 22, 1996. In the following spring, the musical made its Broadway debut at the Nederlander Theatre, where it continued for over 5, 000 performances. The play was eventually adapted into a film in 2005.
Set in the mid-1990s, “Rent” follows a group of struggling young artists as they juggle their careers, love lives and the AIDS epidemic that’s infiltrating their community.
